diy: Leopard Shoelaces

Recently, I teamed up with BANGS shoes to create an edgy project for personalizing kicks. Leopard print is one of my favorite patterns, so of course I had to give this idea a spin. The method used is similar to the Ombre Dyed Shoelaces that I made last month.

A little bit about BANGS: The brand is a partner of Kiva, a nonprofit company. With each purchase of BANGS shoes, 20% of net profits are used to help hand-selected individuals (who are living in poverty) to start a business. BANGS is all about spreading a positive change to the dreamers and entrepreneurs around the world. A pretty awesome mission, if you ask me!

Keep on reading to see how I spiced up a pair of BANGS shoes:

What I Used:

- Fabric &/or Acrylic Paint (Brown, White, Black)
- Thin Paintbrush

1) Mix the brown and white paints together until you achieve the tan hue that you desire.

2) Water it down. Mix well with a paintbrush.

3) Soak the shoelaces in the mixture. I covered my container and shook it around a bit.

4) Lay the laces out to dry. Once dry, take the thin paintbrush and black paint and create leopard spots.

This past project (Leopard Print Suede & Rhinestone Bracelet) has some pointers on drawing realistic leopard spots.

Once dry, repeat on the reverse side. I found that taping down the laces while painting them helped a great deal.

Lace them back up!
