diy: Metal & Pearl Necklace

Another hardware project! This one doesn't even look like hardware related, which is one of my favorite aspects of this necklace. I made it on a whim, and I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

I'm loving the pearl and metal combination. See how I made it, below! >>

 Supplies:

- Large pearl beads
-Jewelry pliers
- Wire,
- Thick chain, about 11 inches
- Jump rings, at least 3
- Jewelry clasp
- Pipe coupling (mine is from Home Depot, here)

1) Cut a long strand of wire - mine was 18 inches (45.72 cm) and was more than enough. Using the round nosed ends of the jewelry pliers, create a loop. I twisted it several times to ensure security.

2) Thread pearls onto the wire, until 7 inches (17.78 cm) is reached. Insert the strand of pearls through the coupling.

3) Trim the end of the wire, leaving about an inch (2.54 cm).

4) Form a tight loop, as you did in the beginning.

5) Connect to the strand of pearls to the chain with a jump ring. If you haven't already, separate the chain so that you have two equal lengths. Connect the other end of the pearl strand to the second half of the chain.

6) Attach the clasp and jump ring to the ends of the chain.

Hope you like it! I love the metal coupling because it doesn't even look like what it really is. It can just pass for a metal tube jewelry finding. In person, the copper hue is a bit like rose gold - which we all know is an all around fave!

  5. Wow, neat! I always struggle with attaching the different strings/chains etc but this was a perfect example of simple often being the best.

  7. I can honestly say I wouldn't think I would like this pairing of metal and pearls as much as I do. It really is ravishing and sexy on some level. It gives you the sophistication that pearls bring with some spicy, chunky, metal fun thrown in. This is truly creative and makes me wonder what other shapes, styles, and hues might work together? I am excited to get busy trying some other sassy combinations! Just out of curiosity, what was the approximate supply cost?
