a dash of inspiration: Burberry, Free People and Marc Jacobs

This year, I've decided to create a new feature called "A Dash of Inspiration" (kind of going with the salt/pepper theme...sort of? Maybe?). I come across SO many things that spark project ideas, but it would be humanly impossible to create every single DIY that I think of - because, yes, my list is already that long.

 Each post will feature pictures of items, accompanied by a short blurb stating how one could create a project inspired by said item.

 Of course, these won't be taking place of the usual tutorials on the blog - they can even be considered as abbreviated versions of what I usually post. It's just another way to share my ideas with the awesome readers of s&p!

 THEIR WAY:
 Burberry Prorsum Crocheted silk-blend scarf, $550 (Net-a-porter.com)

YOUR WAY: 
The crocheted part of this scarf reminds me of fishnet material. A strip of fishnet stocking material, or maybe even a pair of fishnet tights, would look pretty similar. Sew (or use fabric glue) to add some kind of trim around the border.

THEIR WAY:
 Free People Lacey Cutoff Denim Shorts, $88 (FreePeople.com)

YOUR WAY:
Take an old pair of jeans and cut off the legs. Turn them inside out, and line the bottom edge of one leg with fabric glue. Cut a strand of lace trim that is twice the width of one leg opening. Place the lace trim on along the line of fabric glue. Repeat on the other leg. Let dry.

Flip over and line the bottom edge with fabric glue, and place the remaining lace trim on the glue. Repeat on the other leg. Connect the ends of the lace trim (where they meet on each side) with a few quick stitches.

 

THEIR WAY:

  Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Turnlock Necklace, $228 (ShopBop.com)

YOUR WAY:

Take two strands of thick curb chain that are the same style, but different metals. Each strand should measure half of what your finished necklace will be. Connect the two with heavy duty pliers. Tie some grosgrain (or silk, or velvet, or even printed!) ribbon to both ends and tie around your neck.
