diy: Draped Chain and Stud Necklace

Studs and Pearls reader Adam recently sent me a picture of a necklace, asking for some tips on how to make it. I happened to have the materials to make the necklace, so I thought I'd make a quick and simple DIY out of it. I've also had requests for jewelry tutorials appropriate for beginners, so this is perfect if you're just starting out with jewelry making. You'll only need a few supplies!

diy: Ring Tray Holder

This is probably already a given, but my following collections are pretty huge:

1) Fabric and old clothes to re-use.
2) Jewelry, mostly handmade of course. By myself or other people.

Recently, I decided I needed to figure out a better way to store my rings. I used to hold them in a small container on my dresser, but my stash has far out grown it. I thought it'd be nice to store them in a way that displays them as well, so when I dug up this wooden tray holder I thrifted a while back, I knew exactly what I could make. Using almost three entire old sweaters and a yard of black textured jersey, I made this ring holder.

The best part: I was able to use up my fabric stash, something I'm really trying to do this year. I keep all of it in my closet...and the clothes to fabric ratio is almost equal. This ring holder also works perfectly for my bigger stud earrings, making sure each one is with its partner.

giveaway: JewelMint and My Top Three Favorites

I've been a long time lover of JewelMint, so I'm very excited to announce this giveaway! My personal jewelry stash is pretty extensive (as you can probably imagine) but of the pieces that I wear the most, quite a few are by JM.

One lucky Studs & Pearls reader will win three (3) of my favorite JewelMint pieces:

1) Cleopatra Reborn Earrings. 2) Persephone Pendant. 3) Ever Frost Ring.

If you haven't heard of JewelMint just yet, it's a jewelry club created by Kate Bosworth and celebrity stylist Cher Coulter. Every month, a new collection of unique jewelry is offered. When you first register, there's a quiz to assess your personal style and taste. From then on, you're introduced to personalized picks each month. It's $29.99 (+ free shipping) each month for 1 credit, which gets you 1 piece of jewelry. You can always purchase more credits for more jewelry, or you can skip the month if you choose. There's so many ways to personalize the club for yourself, which is why I love it.

SO, how to enter! Head over to JewelMint's website, become a user (if you haven't already), check out the jewelry and leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite pick. This giveaway will be open for two (2) weeks - until February 27. At the end of the day (EST) I'll randomly choose ONE winner to win my top three favorites above. Shortly after, I'll announce the lucky reader in this post. So be sure to check back then!

(PS, you won't be charged anything until you make your first purchase)

And when you do make your first purchase, Studs and Pearls readers can use the code PEARLS to get 50% off your first purchase. This code is valid until February 29!

Good luck! And Happy Valentine' Eve/Day to all my lovely readers.<3

FashionArtProjects.com diy: Alphabet Heart Tote

Recently, FashionArtProjects.com was awesome enough to send me some DIY supplies to try out. With Valentine's Day just a few days away, I decided to make a heart themed project. I didn't overdo it with the hopes of making it something that can technically be used all year around. It kind of reminds me of something Victoria's Secret PINK would make!

I also decided to use an old pair of lace tights in this project. I've had these tights for years, but they're so incredibly itchy, I haven't worn them once. I've been hoping to use it in some kind of project, so this was the perfect opportunity. It's a good way to not only recycle old tights that have rips or tears, but to add a little something extra to an otherwise plain tote.

diy: Box Lanyard and Chain Bracelet

Lanyard (or plastic lacing, or gimp, or boondoggle, or whatever you'd like to call it!) has definitely been making a comeback. For most of us, it's a blast from the past that had a pretty significant role in our childhood - or at least, it did for me. I've been trying to think up of different ways to use lanyard in more stylish and mature ways, like the Lanyard Stitched Clutch and the Lanyard Double Chain Bracelet.

Lanyard bracelets are always fun, but I think the addition of the chain brings in a more sophisticated touch. See how I made it below!
