diy: Chain and Rhinestone Necklace

I love mixing and matching materials, and I also love quick and easy projects. This necklace is all of that in a nutshell! I've also had many requests for beginner jewelry tutorials, so this is a simple DIY that is great for starters. A basic reconstruction and perfect for a weekend afternoon :)

 Check out the how-to below!

Supplies:

- Thick curb chain
- Rhinestone bib necklace
(there are tons of vintage rhinestone necklaces on Etsy!)
- Round nosed jewelry pliers
- Handful of jump rings
- Scissors and jewelry clasp (not shown)

1) Line up the rhinestone necklace and the chain to determine where you will connect the two pieces.

2) Begin attaching the bib portion to the chain, using the jewelry pliers and jump rings. I'd recommend starting from the center. Of course, this will depend on the type of necklace you are able to find/use.

3) Continue to attach more jump rings on either side of the center.

4) When the entire rhinestone bib portion is connected to the chain, cut off the remainder of the necklace. Repeat on the other side.

5) Attach the jewelry clasps at the ends of the chain. I had to add an extender chain to mine; you might not need to if your thick curb chain is long enough.

So easy! Today, I wore it with a basic black jersey tank top and one of my favorites: the adorable Layer Cake Zip Front skirt in red, by Pavonine (c/o Bollare). You can find the same skirt on Pavonine's website, in black, ivory or aubergine. It's two tiered, and while the zipper is usually worn in the front, you can also wear it reversed...which I love!

Here's a better shot of the skirt, thanks to my instagram. I'm in love with the way it falls - very flirty and fun :)

Happy weekend! xo

  1. I absolutely agree with you, DIY is the best form to express one self. It develops ones creativity. I love to do the same thing. I love to mix and match as well as experiment with colors especially with things that sparks and i like your necklace.

BTW! Does buying supplies in ETSY cheaper? I got mine from this site http://www.crystalsrus.com/ which recommended by my friend. I wonder if its cheaper to buy in Etsy. Not heard about it before.
