Thanks to the awesome crew at Glamour Kills, I was able to make this Dreamer V-neck shirt into a cute & comfortable asymmetrical dress. I'm pretty happy with the result, because it's sooo comfortable and can easily be dresse up or down. It's a play on the Gathered Summer Dress from a few months ago, and as long as you know how to sew a straight line, it's super easy to make.
Supplies:
- T-shirt, preferably slightly loose fitting
- Jersey, 1 yard should be more than enough
- Pins, thread, scissors, etc.
- Sewing machine

I used this Dreamer V-neck tee c/o of Glamour Kills, from their Fall 2011 Dream on Dreamer collection. I chose it specifically because I knew it'd work really well for this particular project - plus I love the graphic and design of it.
Like I said above, it's similar to a past project, with a few different details. Here's a quick run through of how I did it -
Like I said above, it's similar to a past project, with a few different details. Here's a quick run through of how I did it -
I measured the width of the shirt, at the point where I wanted the skirt portion to start. I tripled that number and cut a piece of jersey at that measurement. This would allow more than enough room for pleating and gathering.
I usually like to "clean up" and finish the edges of anything by sewing them. I let the top edge of the jersey roll into itself (you'll know what I'm talking about when you work with it) and then sewed straight across.
I pinned the jersey to the shirt, right sides facing each other. I folded the jersey every so often before pinning it down; sewing right over this will result in the pleated look.
Left:
This is what it more or less looked like, right before I sewed the two ends of the jersey to close it up (which is why it looks a little wonky in this picture)
Right:
Instead of simply shortening the jersey like I did with the Gathered Summer Dress,
I cut the jersey at an angle to create an asymmetrical look.

I'm actually currently in Providence, Rhode Island visiting my good friend Mackenzie (from Strokes of Serendipity). Tomorrow I'm heading to Boston for a few days - visiting some friends & going to an awesome show. By the end of the week it'll be off to New Jersey to see some of my fave guys (Athletics), along with yet another great show. One of them - Garrett - is working merch for Moving Mountains during their nationwide tour with Thrice, La Dispute and O'Brother - I'm excited to hear how it's been so far.
I'll be traveling a lot within 9 days, but I have DIY's all ready to be posted throughout the week though, so don't worry :)
Mackenzie & I are about to go thrift shopping & enjoy this beautiful day. Hope you're all enjoying the weekend! xo
