diy: Fringe Scarf Cardigan

Turn a fringe scarf into a cardigan/cover up, in just a few minutes. As long as you know how to sew a straight line, you'll be good to go. Learn how to do it after the jump!

Supplies:
- Large fringe scarf. I got mine at H&M for less than $8.
- Scissors
- Coordinating thread
- FrayCheck (optional, but a good idea)
- Sewing machine (not shown)

I horizontally folded the scarf (from left to right) and sewed a vertical line. This shortened the scarf so that it fit my arm span.

I sewed down the middle a few more times for further strength, cut the excess and applied FrayCheck to secure everything together.

I folded the scarf in a half again - but this time, top to bottom. I sewed two straight lines to create armholes, as indicated above. It's entirely up to you how long (and where exactly) you'd like to place them.

Tie off the strings, and you're done. So easy. You could probably still wear it as a scarf if you'd like!

Scarf turned cardigan: H&M, Tank top: Run for Cover Records, Jeans: Forever 21, Boots: Vintage, Jewelry: All handmade

  16. This is a really cool idea! How big of a scarf did you use?

  17. To the questions above - It was about 38 inches in width and almost 80 inches in length. Pretty big! I cut off a decent amount though, to cater to what I wanted, so you don't need to look for a specific scarf size. You can always alter it/trim it down!

  19. I like the fact that you can still use it as a scarf. Very versatile.
